AI-Powered Lead Research Field Generation: A VectorFormed Technical Guide

By VectorFormed LLC

1. Executive Overview & Business Value

This functionality leverages Salesforce Prompt Builder and Agentforce to automate the pre-call research process for Sales Development Representatives (SDRs). Instead of sales teams spending 15–30 minutes manually scraping search engines and LinkedIn for account context, this architecture introduces an AI-powered Field Generation prompt directly within the Lead record. The system ingests a snapshot of the entire Lead record and dynamically generates actionable intelligence, including industry context, prioritized discovery questions, and targeted value propositions. For Revenue Operations, this standardizes call preparation, reduces manual overhead, and dramatically accelerates lead response times, resulting in higher conversion rates and increased pipeline velocity.

2. Architecture & Prerequisites

  • Required Licenses/Editions: Enterprise, Unlimited, or Performance Edition with the Einstein Generative AI add-on provisioned.
  • Required User Permissions: Customize Application, Prompt Template Manager, Einstein GPT User.
  • Objects & Relationships: Lead (Standard Object).
  • Pre-configuration Checklist:
    • Einstein Generative AI must be enabled globally (Setup > Einstein Setup > Turn On Einstein).
    • Agentforce Default configuration must be initialized and active.
    • The target Lead Lightning Record Page must be upgraded to use Dynamic Forms to support component-level AI bindings.

3. The Build Blueprint: Step-by-Step Configuration

Phase 1: Architectural Foundation (Field Creation) To capture and persist the AI-generated intelligence, you must first create a destination field on the Lead object.

  1. Navigate to Setup > Object Manager > Lead > Fields & Relationships.
  2. Click New and select Long Text Area (Recommended specs: Length 32,768, Visible Lines: 15).
  3. Set Field Label to Agent Research (API Name: Agent_Research__c).
  4. Establish Field-Level Security for relevant Sales and RevOps profiles. Do not add to standard page layouts, as UI rendering will be handled via Dynamic Forms.

Phase 2: Prompt Builder Configuration

  1. Navigate to Setup > Prompt Builder.
  2. Click New Prompt Template.
  3. Workspace Type: Select Field Generation.
  4. Target Object: Select Lead.
  5. Target Field: Select Agent Research.
  6. Template Name: Name the template Lead Research Agent.
  7. Model Selection: Select the organizational default or a preferred LLM model from the Model dropdown (e.g., standard OpenAI integration or Anthropic via Data Cloud, depending on your org's trust layer setup).

Phase 3: Lightning App Builder & UI Integration

  1. Navigate to a test Lead record in the front-end UI.
  2. Click the Setup Gear and select Edit Page to open the Lightning App Builder.
  3. Ensure the Record Detail component has been upgraded to Dynamic Forms.
  4. Drag the Agent Research field onto the canvas, ideally grouped under a dedicated "Lead Intelligence" or "Description" section.
  5. Select the Agent Research field on the canvas. In the right-hand properties pane, locate the Einstein Field Generation configuration.
  6. Map the field to the Lead Research Agent prompt template created in Phase 2.
  7. Save and Activate the Lightning page.

4. Logic, Automation, & Formulas

The core logic resides within the Prompt Template instruction set. For this use case, utilizing a Record Snapshot is required to give the LLM full contextual awareness of the Lead without manually mapping dozens of merge fields.

Recommended Prompt Template Syntax:

Plaintext

Act as an expert Sales Development Representative. Review the provided Lead Record Snapshot below:

{!$Input:Lead}

‍

Based on the Company Name, Title, and Industry provided in the snapshot, generate a concise pre-call briefing. Format the output with the following sections:

1. Estimated Company Context: Provide a brief summary of what this company likely does and current industry trends.

2. Discovery Questions: Provide 3 highly targeted discovery questions tailored to the prospect's potential pain points.

3. Value Propositions: Provide 2 value propositions aligning our solutions to their specific vertical.

‍

Note: If verified public data is unavailable, use the Company Name to estimate their industry focus (e.g., assuming "Beacon Edge Devices" relates to IoT hardware), but state clearly that this is an estimation based on contextual reference.

Data Type Note: Ensure the destination field (Agent_Research__c) remains a strictly text-based data type (Long Text Area). Rich Text Areas can sometimes cause rendering conflicts with standard AI text injection depending on the selected LLM formatting outputs.

5. Testing & QA Validation Protocol

  1. Prompt Workspace Preview: Before activating the prompt, utilize the Preview panel in Prompt Builder. Select a Lead record (e.g., "Beacon Edge Devices") as the reference record and click generate. Validate that the AI successfully ingests the Record Snapshot and formats the output according to your instructions.
  2. UI Execution Validation: Log in as a standard Sales User in the Sandbox. Navigate to a Lead record.
  3. Trigger Generation: Click the inline edit pencil icon on the Agent Research field. Click the Einstein icon (stars) that appears inside the field UI.
  4. Review & Map: Wait for the generation modal to load and process the prompt. Review the readout.
  5. Persistence Test: Click the Use button to push the AI-generated text directly into the field layout. Click Save on the record. Refresh the browser to ensure data persistence against the database.

6. Edge Cases & Maintenance

  • Data Hallucinations on Fictional/Obscure Data: If a Lead submits a fake company name or a highly generic name, the LLM may hallucinate contextual references based purely on naming semantics. RevOps must build a training protocol instructing users to treat AI generation as a baseline tool, not absolute fact, and to verify the generated insights before client engagement.
  • Token Payload Limits: The {!$Input:Lead} snapshot payload sends the entire record schema to the LLM. If your org has a heavily customized Lead object with hundreds of populated custom fields, this could exceed model token limits. If token errors occur, you must refactor the prompt to drop the snapshot and instead use explicit merge fields (e.g., {!$Input:Lead.Company}, {!$Input:Lead.Industry}).
  • Data Staleness: Field generation is a point-in-time execution. If the Lead's company or title is updated weeks later, the Agent Research field will not auto-update. Users must manually clear the field and re-click the Einstein icon to regenerate fresh intelligence based on the new data variables.
